Kids' Adventure Map:
A Fun Way to Experience Washington's Estate for Families

This colorful map is free for families with the purchase of a youth or child's admission ticket. The map guides children around the estate in a quest to solve nine puzzles by exploring outbuildings and the Mansion. It's full of engaging activities for families to learn about Mount Vernon together!

Hands-on History Room:
All the Things Kids Love to Do

Geared toward Mount Vernon's youngest visitors (ages three to eight), the Hands-on History area allows children to learn the same themes and ideas presented in the Education Center galleries by dressing in 18th-century clothing, putting on stage plays, reading books, exploring activity boxes and games, and learning about Washington's farm animals. An engaging children's experience in the Washington, D.C., area.

Washington's Animals:
A Favorite Place to Visit with Kids

Mount Vernon is home to a variety of heritage breeds that are similar to those owned by Washington in the 18th century. They include hogs, sheep, turkeys, chickens, horses, oxen, cattle, mules, and livestock.  Be sure to find the baby animals during spring and summer. A brief departure from a typical Washington, D.C., vacation!

Scouting Activities:
Children Honor Washington Through Service

Between November 1 and the national observation of George Washington's Birthday, all Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA who wear their uniform or official pin are admitted free. Scouts may participate in activities that help them earn badges or pins, such as hiking the forest trail and laying a wreath at Washington's tomb.
